Develop a garden to supply the local food pantry with fresh produce. Kristin Leach

Goals

  • To be able to provide produce to our local food pantry.

Overview

The "Full Bellies" garden would provide our local food pantry with fresh and frozen produce throughout the year.  It would also provide volunteer hours for local high school students to fulfill their education requirements.  We have roughly three acres of vacant land that could be developed into a garden for the pantry.  From start to finish, it would allow myself, my husband and others to take place in a project that would help nourish others and bring a sense of pride to our community.

How will the 5K be Used?

Budget Notes: This budget does not cover the tractor or tractor maintenance, land or land taxes, electricity charges for the freezer or labor cost, which will be based on volunteers.
$ 150seeds and starter plants
$ 500fencing
$ 250fuel
$ 800freezer
$ 150buckets, misc.
$ 400canning items and freezer bags

Beverly Hills Housewife Taylor Armstrong inspires Launch Of Holiday Help Line For Addicts and Alcoholics...

MALIBU BEACH RECOVERY CENTER TO PROVIDE TREATMENT, INTERVENTION RESOURCES
Malibu – Malibu Beach Recovery Center announces effective immediately its first annual “Holiday Help Line” (Telephone:  800-756-6990) which any member of the public can call through January 31, 2011.  The inspiration for the Help Line came from Taylor Armstrong, a star of the hit reality show “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”
Holidays often trigger excessive drug abuse and drinking.  Last holiday season Taylor and her financier husband Russell Armstrong learned that a close family member had a serious substance abuse problem.  They called Malibu Beach Recovery Center CEO Joan Borsten for support.  Borsten worked with the Armstrong's to bring the family member to treatment.  A year later that family member has a new life and the Armstrong's are part owners of the innovative treatment center.
“I encourage people to make the call,” said Taylor, “no matter what your economic situation or geographic location.  I know how frightening it is, trying to make the right decision when you don’t even know what to ask.  What they will get is a good listener who knows a lot about intervention and treatment and can help them find a good solution.  Some questions to ask are:  How do I get someone to go to treatment?  How do I choose the right treatment program? How long should someone remain in treatment?  How can an interventionist help?”
Added CEO Borsten:  “At Taylor’s behest, we have readied a network of  interventionists, rehabs and sober livings.”
Families and those in need of treatment can also email questions to mailto:taylor@malibubeachrecovery.com

BEVERLY HILLS REALITY TV STAR TAYLOR ARMSTRONG AND FINANCIER RUSSELL ARMSTRONG ACQUIRE EQUITY IN MALIBU BEACH RECOVERY CENTER
TAYLOR ARMSTRONG WILL SERVE AS AN AMBASSADOR FOR THE CENTER
Malibu, CA (November 8, 2010) – Joan Borsten, CEO of Malibu Beach Recovery Center, announced today that Taylor and Russell Armstrong have acquired an equity interest in the exclusive alcohol and drug rehabilitation clinic based in Malibu, CA. Taylor Armstrong, a star of Bravo’s hit television series "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills", will serve as an ambassador on behalf of Malibu Beach Recovery Center.
Taylor and her venture capitalist husband, Russell Armstrong, took a keen interest in Malibu Beach Recovery Center after they successfully sent a family member through a 90-day treatment program in 2009. Malibu Beach Recovery Center is owned by Borsten, an entertainment and business executive, and her husband, Oleg Vidov, one of Russia’s most acclaimed actors.
"Before marrying Russell, Taylor worked for Pfizer, one of this country’s leading pharmaceutical companies,” said Borsten. "Her background makes her an ideal ambassador for the Malibu Beach Recovery Center as she understands the cutting edge neuroscience that is the basis of our treatment system and can easily explain how it works to addicts and their families and health care professionals alike. With Russell on board, we have the benefit of his business acumen allowing us to begin licensing the Malibu Beach Recovery System to other treatment centers across the country."
"For a long time," explained Taylor  "we knew that something was wrong with our family member”. “We often felt that we were being emotionally terrorized. When we discovered she was an addict, suddenly everything made sense.”
"We have seen firsthand that addiction is a disease of the brain, and that both drugs and alcohol create neurological imbalances causing an addict to stop thinking and acting like a rational person,” continued Taylor Armstrong. “We chose the Malibu Beach Recovery Center because its goal is to quickly and efficiently begin to repair the addict’s brain chemistry through holistic means. The results were almost immediate and thus far lasting. By becoming equity owners, we can proactively help make the Center’s system of treatment available to people from all walks of life."
Malibu Beach Recovery Center combines traditional therapy formats with a holistic overlay designed to naturally raise the chronically low dopamine levels of alcoholics and drug addicts. In August 2010, Dr. Kenneth Blum, a pioneer in the field of genetics and addiction, endorsed the Malibu Beach Recovery Center, saying: "Your treatment program builds dopamine levels. You have what is really going to turn a person’s life around. [And that is] importantly -- an easy program that an individual can follow for the rest of their life."
Way to go Taylor, thats why we love you so much :)

Taylor's Christmas 2010

Taylor is going to have a low-key Christmas this year.“We’ll have a few friends over, have people in and out all day on Christmas, we’ll cook—but it’s going to be a really homey day for us,” . “I have two stepchildren and I’m lucky enough to have all three kids here during the holidays, it’s just great to see them all together. We go and pick out our tree as a family, we decorate, we listen to Christmas music—all of those kinds of things."
What's different is their after-party.
"After Christmas, we’ll go to Deer Valley and take the family skiing. I’ve been so busy with the show, it’ll be nice to be home with the family and relax," she said. We're glad to see Taylor taking a break and enjoying time with family away from work .

Taylors' Roaring 20's Party

I have always enjoyed dressing up, especially in era costumes. Putting on a costume seems to lighten one’s mood and sets the tone for a fun evening. When it comes to finding a unique costume, Hollywood is the place to be. Hollywood costume houses are a special treasure trove of archived costumes worn in films, theatre, and television. Fortunately, my friend and stylist, Julie Waldorf, found time to meet me at Western Costume. Western Costume has dressed virtually every major film star beginning in the silent era, through the first Academy Awards, to today. It was a very special treat for me to have the opportunity to play dress-up with their vast collection. I was so impressed with the miles -- yes, seven miles -- of Hollywood treasures. It’s like a trip down motion picture memory lane walking the aisles of Western Costume, very nostalgic. Julie and I had a laugh trying on different looks; we selected a vintage headband from the 1920s. I so admired the gorgeous dresses from the era but, I was concerned about wearing the fragile ninety-year-old garments to a party. I opted for a modern version from Sue Wong, rather than risk the delicate fabric and bead work in the vintage dresses. Among Ms. Wong’s collections are 1920s-inspired pieces, including the one I wore in this episode.I loved seeing all my friends dressed in costume and enjoying themselves. It was especially nice to see Kyle and Camille put their differences aside for the evening and have some fun; we all needed it.
It was kind of Kim to invite me for a manicure. It was the first time we really had the chance to talk and we related to one another much better than in the past. I am not sure where the tension between us comes from or where it is going, but we are certainly better one-on-one than in the middle of a tornado. We may still have our differences, but I now have hope.
The charity event at Villa Blanca went beautifully. The fashion show was a hit, the food was delicious, and the proceeds went to a very deserving young lady. Very nice job, Lisa. Taylor looks Fab in this outfit, what do you think??

Taylor's Interview With WetPaint About The Holidays

Wetpaint Exclusive! Christmas Q&A with Taylor Armstrong and O.C.'s Lynne Curtin.These two are all smiles and laughter. We're proud of them for leaving the drama at home!

Hollywood’s finest celebrity stylists, journalists, and it girls joined together for a fabulous night of gourmet mini munchies and holiday shopping at the chic LA + JO in the newly renovated Santa Monica Place, hosted by the ever-so-gorgeous philanthropist Taylor Armstrong of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Lynne Curtin of The Real Housewives of Orange County.

As Taylor exclaims “I love you guys”, she readily gave up the scoop on her passion to change the lives of women, her obsession with shiny things, and how Kennedy is still a pretty happy and down-to-earth kid.

Wetpaint: You have to tell us the secret on how you get your hair so perfect.

Taylor Armstrong: I use the big barrel curling irons, and instead of rolling horizontally, I do it vertically and then pull out long.
WP: What are you wearing?

TA: It’s thin suede and is amaaazing. It’s like Buttah!
WP: Why are charities such as Holiday Help Line so important to you at this time of year?

TA: I am a child of domestic violence. Because of my personal experience it’s so personal. Unlike cancer and many disease processes, this is something that is completely avoidable, it’s violence. It’s unnecessary, hurting and scars people for life. It’s an unnecessary evil in this world. The more attention that we draw to it, the more assistance that we give to people living with it, then maybe we can lessen it.

WP: Can you give a little inspiration to women in domestic violence situations?

TA: There are organizations all over the USA like the 1736 Family Crisis Center that offer such unbelievable resources, support, psychological counseling. In our shelters they put families together and keep families together. You have peers around you that are going through the same thing. Having that support system is what you need. They help you get back on your feet, job placement, job training, legal services. It’s all available.

WP: What are you offering your time and support for the holidays?

TA: We are doing a holiday store for the 1736 Crisis Center and I have been so fortunate through the show and people that have come to our rescue. Major designers like Seven for All Mankind, Dearfoam, Smashbox Cosmetics have been unbelievably generous. We have 1200 shoppers this year and these are women and children of domestic violence and they will get to give gifts to one another from major designers this year. I would get excited to get Seven for Christmas. I couldn’t be happier.

WP: How is Miss Kennedy?

TA: Oh my gosh she is a handful. Let me tell ya!
WP: So for Christmas, do you go all as well?

TA: She’s just a regular kid, I hate to tell ya that. She wants rollerskates and she needs a bigger bike because she’s outgrown hers. She gets the same stuff that other kids get. She wants simple things, she’s 4.

WP: What kind of gift giver are you?

TA: I’m a last minute shopper. I am terrible with it. And I like to shop online. It’s totally dangerous (because it’s 24 hours), but it’s totally my favorite thing.

WP: What’s the most extravagant gift you’ve ever given or received?

TA: My husband’s birthday is just four days before Christmas so I have to do the double duty. Last year I threw him a surprise cowboy Christmas birthday party because my husband is a Texan. We did the big hay bells, and saddles, and longhorns, and gambling, and hats, and horns. That was a big deal for us last year. The Christmas birthdays, oh that is so unfair. They get their birthday presents wrapped in Christmas paper; it’s just not fair.

WP: I love your nails, they are so shiny.

TA: Thank you, it’s gellish!
